Student Council Elections

Sep 23, 2025

This Friday sees the Student Council Elections take place for the new school year.

Our hustings take place on Thursday. This will give all the candidates a chance to get out and get their message across to all the students who will ultimately be voting.

We plan to do our live blog on the day so keep your eye on the website!

Best of luck to everyone who put themselves forward for this role.

Friday 26th

9.30am – Polling Station is set up and ready to go. We will have a live run down throughout the morning as we all wait to see who gets these coveted positions!

Tiarnach and Kyle are in charge for the day. We wish them the best of luck in their role for the day.

Voting is underway! the first of our voters are queuing up outside to get in and vote today. The clerks are letting everyone know of they have registered to vote head of this very important process.

Our first round of voters are making their way in to cast their vote.

Our clerks will ensure that the process is carried out correctly and that it is one vote per person. We have had a few postal votes cast already this week.

Hard to tell how any of these class elections will go. People are very tight lipped about how they are voting. Nervous energy all round this morning, and a sense of ‘The Traitors’ as people are telling different candidates they voted for them.

Only time will tell I suppose.

10.05am

5th and 6th are up! The most tight lipped group so far. Any of these could win the Traitors the way they are going on!

10.17am

High voter turnout has been reported, however we will wait for exact percentages from the polling clerks.

One of our voters just wanted to wish Moynalty all the best in the Junior B final this Sunday. Throw in is at 12 in Páirc Tailteann.

The percentages are in –

1st class – voter turnout 87.5%

2nd class – voter turnout 88.8%

3rd class – voter turnout 87.5%

4th class – voter turnout 86.6%

5th class – voter turnout 93.75%

6th class – voter turnout 92.3%

Overall we have a turnout of 93.75% on this Student Council Election Day!

10.35 am –

While we wait for tallies to come our way I went and spoke with some of the candidates and they are all feeling nervous. Unsure as how they’ll do due to the quality of candidates running against them. One thing is for sure, whoever gets on the Student Council will do a great job as they are all excellent candidates. There may be disappointment for some, but everyone has run incredible campaigns!

10.47am

Counting is underway! Our two clerks aren’t giving much away but they did say that it was tight from what they could see. Some spoiled votes in the mix too – we’ll have percentages on that later too. Our postal votes also need to be added in.

10.53am

Breaking News we will not have a result until after lunch! It’s going to be a long day here in Nobber as we wait for the final tallies and definitive results, but we have just heard that there will be no results until after 1pm.

They are currently counting and double checking in case there needs to be a re-vote in any of the rooms. This could add on even more time to an already very long day for voters and candidates alike!

13.20

We have results! We held off as we had a re vote in 1st and 2nd class and we didn’t want to rush it. These things take as much time as they take.

Before we move on to the winners, we want to thank Mr O’Reilly for spearheading the Student Council. He is the link teacher and works with them all year. He coordinated today and deserves special mention. Also thanks need to go to Tiarnach and Kyle K who knew the results from before lunch, but managed to keep it all to themselves. They were professional and you may find them at a polling station near you in the near future!

13.25

We used our first assembly of the year for the announcement.

1st and 2nd class reps are: Lucianna and Pj

3rd and 4th class reps are: Kaytie, Alex, Niamh, and Evan

Sonas Rep: Danny

5th and 6th class reps: Kaitlyn, Seamus, Florence, and Alessio.

We were delighted to have everyone outside for assembly this afternoon. The sun is shining, the tunes are now blaring and the spirits are high!

Well done everyone!
